MTI-Hungary Today 2023.07.27.

This year’s admission points for higher education were published on Wednesday evening. Balázs Hankó, the Secretary of State for Innovation and Higher Education at the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, said on Thursday that the number of people admitted to higher education has increased by 28 percent compared to last year, and is the highest number in the last ten years.

Balázs Hankó pointed out that 94,785 out of 126,449 applicants were accepted, and eight out of ten applicants will start their studies with a state scholarship. He added that the number of students admitted to universities in rural cities has increased by 43 percent, with one in two students admitted to such institutions this year.

He highlighted that the number of students admitted to technical, natural science, engineering and information technology courses has increased by 34 percent, with one in four students admitted to this field. In engineering, the increase was 44 percent, in agriculture 28 percent and in teacher training 67 percent.

Balázs Hankó said that the government’s aim is to make it possible to obtain a degree while working, as a degree means a one-and-a-half times higher salary on average. He pointed out that

this year more than 20,000 students over 30 years of age were admitted, an 84% increase in the number of people who want to study while working.

Students received a direct notification by SMS from 8 p.m. on Wednesday, and they could also find out about the scores on university admissions website Felvi.hu and follow the results on Facebook.

This year, the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, the Education Office and National Conference of University Student Councils organized the so-called “Pont ott” party, where students could wait together for the thresholds, in the Budapest Park. On the site, several higher education institutions and the Education Office hosted an information desk. In addition to the capital city, there were also events waiting for the results in several rural cities.

Students can score a maximum of 500 points in the admission process, with the most popular courses typically requiring a score above 400.

At the National University of Public Service in Budapest, almost 2,300 first-year students will start their studies in the new academic year in September, more than 300 more than last year, the institution told MTI. They added that there were several faculties of the university that required a score well above 400 points for admission.

The popular rural institution received 9,074 first place applications and 7,894 new students were admitted. The number of students enrolled in state-funded courses also increased, thanks to the funding contract signed by the institution following the model change.

At the same time, more students than ever before, 3,367, were admitted this year to the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ courses starting in September, an increase of 32 percent compared to last year, the institution said. They added that more than half of the first-year students, 1,708, will start their studies in the field of agricultural and food sciences, which is growing at an extraordinary pace and is of great importance for the national economy.
