An agreement has been reached between Ganz, a Hungarian holding company, and its Tunisian partner to launch a large-scale railway industry cooperation in the modernization of the North African country’s railway network, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó announced in Tunis on Monday.
Speaking ahead of talks with his Tunisian counterpart Nabil Ammar, the Hungarian Minister announced: “Today, an agreement is being signed between Hungarian and Tunisian companies, which will launch a serious process of cooperation in the railway sector, as the Tunisian railway company is launching a tender for hundreds of millions of euros to improve the railway network and the stock of wagons.”
The major Tunisian companies, together with the Hungarian ones, want to modernize the Tunisian railway network, both national and suburban, he said.
To this end, Ganz is signing a cooperation agreement today with its Tunisian partner to collaborate on major rail industry projects in the coming period,”
he added.
He also revealed that the parties intend to boost cooperation in the fields of the agriculture and food industries, agricultural sciences, and water treatment. The Minister also touched upon bilateral relations, stressing that cooperation is based on the fact that both countries have sovereign governments that do not tolerate any external interference and resist any pressure and attacks.
He also announced that the number of scholarships for Tunisian students at Hungarian universities would be increased from 200 to 250 per year, in view of the excessive demand.
