BME Moves Up in World University Rankings

Hungary Today 2023.07.03.

The Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) has announced on its Facebook page that it has moved up more than 100 places to 741-750th in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) 2024 World University Rankings, achieving the biggest improvement in the ranking of all Hungarian universities compared to last year.

As an indication of the value of a degree from the university, BME is ranked 329th in the excellence indicator for graduate employment.

QS ranking assesses the world’s top 3,000 higher education institutions on several criteria. The overall ranking was based on Academic Reputation (30%), Employer Reputation (15%), Citations per Faculty (20%), Faculty Student Ratio (10%), International Faculty Ratio (5%), and International Student Ratio (5%), this year.

The 2023 QS rankings also include three new aspects, each with a weighing of 5%: the International Research Network indicator, the Employment Outcomes measure for graduate students, and the Sustainability indicator, published for the first time last October. In all three areas, the University of Technology has achieved exceptionally high rankings.

Thanks to its wide range of international R&D projects and its partnerships with institutions abroad,

BME was ranked 493rd in the international research network indicator.

It should be highlighted that BME has close cooperation in education and research with nine other excellent European higher education institutions through the European University Association EELISA.

BME is ranked 329th in the world in the graduate employment indicator, demonstrating the effectiveness of the university’s industrial relations and joint trainee-ship programs.

The institution is ranked 360th in the sustainability indicator. BME’s progress is due, among other things, to prestige-based indicators such as academic reputation and the employment performance of its graduates.

BME also scored highly in the QS 2023 discipline ranking published in March. The organization, which analyses 20,000 institutions,

ranked BME 224th in the world in the Engineering and Technology category.
