An event on Hungarian humanitarian assistance to refugees from Ukraine was held on Tuesday in Budapest with the participation of State Secretary Miklós Soltész.

“In the war in Ukraine, peace-building is a task and an opportunity for the great powers, but solidarity is for all of us, and Hungary will continue to do its part in this solidarity,” the State Secretary for Church and Minority Relations said in Budapest on Tuesday.

Speaking at the presentation of the Hungarian chapter of the Regional Refugee Coordination Structure 2023, Miklós Soltész said that Hungary has been involved in the assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the war. The event was co-organized with UNHCR’s Central European representation.

Miklós Soltész recalled that six Hungarian charitable organizations were able to implement aid programs in Ukraine and Hungary for Ukrainian refugees last year with the support of the Hungarian government, with donors in Hungary raising more than one billion forints (2,6 million euros) in donations. He also pointed out that the UNHCR has signed a 2.5 billion forint (6,5 million euro) grant contract with the six charities.
