“We won the Grand Prix for Architecture in the Central European Region in the Recreation and Sport category,” said Zoltán Tima. The Director of Planning at KÖZTI added:

KÖZTI has built many important buildings with a sports function, but one of the biggest international successes in recent times was the Sopron swimming pool. The award is a worthy crowning of the career of our former colleague, architect Csaba Tompos.

One of the important aspects of the design of the swimming pool in Sopron was to ensure that it would fit in well with its green surroundings, leaving as much green space as possible for the beach. The swimming pool hall, designed under the direction of Csaba Tompos, has a direct visual connection with the surrounding greenery through large glass surfaces, with the Alpine landscape almost flowing through the pool area. It has a 25-meter wide and 50-meter-long pool suitable for international competitions, a 25-meter wide and 25-meter long small pool, warm-up and training pools, as well as service rooms. The multi-purpose bathing and swimming complex is also suitable for international competitions, while serving local and tourist needs.

In previous years, the White House office building, the BudaPart Homes “D” building, and the V.30 Downtown Sports Center were also category winners at the international competition.

Public Building Design Ltd. (KÖZTI) is one of the oldest architectural firms in Hungary, employing more than 50 architects. Among its most important projects are the reconstruction of the Várkert Bazaar and Kossuth Square in Budapest, Puskás Arena, the Liszt Ferenc Airport Skycourt, and the T2B pier.
