The Museum of Fine Arts in Heroes’ Square had to be evacuated due to a bomb scare.
A staff member of 24.hu reported on Thursday that “There was a bomb alert in the Museum of Fine Arts, the police were there, no one was not allowed to go in, they said it could take another hour to search.”
The police (ORFK) provided the following information to 24.hu:
In response to your inquiry, we would like to inform you that the National Investigation Office of the Police on Standby is investigating the case against an unknown perpetrator on suspicion of public threat. In the interests of the investigation, the police will not provide any further information on the proceedings.”
According to 24.hu, although the museum closed to visitors at 6 pm, a VIP guided tour was arranged for a later time. The museum is currently hosting an exhibition on Hieronymus Bosch.
On Tuesday, there were bomb alerts in several malls in Budapest, and in several other places in the country as well. However, it is not known whether explosives were eventually found anywhere.
