Five-Star Luxury Hotel Opens in the Heart of Budapest

Hungary Today 2023.11.21.

The Autograph Collection Hotels, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s global portfolio, has announced its Hungarian debut with the opening of the Dorothea Hotel. The new hotel in the iconic 5th district of Budapest is a block of three buildings of different ages and styles. It is named after Maria Dorothea of Württemberg, Archduchess of Austria, an influential public figure of the 1800s, who together with her husband, Archduke Joseph Anton of Austria, brought significant cultural and economic development to the capital.

Evoking the charm of Hungary’s “Golden Age,” the Dorothea Hotel invites its guests on an unrivaled journey through the city center, where past and present are subtly intertwined.

Each hotel in the Autograph Collection tells a unique story, and the Dorothea Hotel is a shining example, evoking the rich history of the city in a sophisticated and modern approach.

Designed by acclaimed Italian architect and designer Piero Lissoni, the Dorothea Hotel pays homage to both history and modernity, a blend that is a recurring motif in the interior design and design elements. The three buildings were built in different periods: the Weber House (1873), the former headquarters of the First National Savings Bank of Pest; the Mahart House (1913), the former Art Nouveau headquarters of the Hungarian shipping company; and the Münnich House (1937), a building combining modernist and art déco elements, serving as the headquarters of Futura Ltd.

Entering the reception area in the spacious courtyard, guests are greeted by a spectacular long drop-shaped glass chandelier and, looking to the right, can glimpse the fully restored historic staircase hidden behind a blue Zsolnay ceramics tiled wall.

The 216 guest rooms and suites at the Dorothea Hotel are divided into two different design categories, Contemporary and Heritage, each with modern amenities.

The crown jewel of the hotel is the top-floor Presidential Suite, comprising a master bedroom, built-in wardrobe, en-suite bathroom, infrared sauna, living room, and dining area with fully equipped kitchen.

The suite features 270-degree floor-to-ceiling windows and a spacious wrap-around terrace with breathtaking views of the city. The terrace is complete with a jacuzzi and comfortable seating area.

The Pavilion Restaurant & Bar is located in the heart of the hotel, in an inner courtyard with the atmosphere of a green oasis, where guests can enjoy a relaxing stay surrounded by nature. The restaurant re-imagines the urban dining experience with gourmet dishes based on local ingredients and following a farm-to-table concept.

Anton’s Bar & Deli, located on the ground floor, offers an artisan coffee experience, and freshly baked pastries by day, while in the evening it transforms into a dynamic bar and social space with a bubbly atmosphere and innovative cocktails. In 2024, the hotel will open two more restaurants, both run by three Michelin-starred chef Dani García: BiBo, an Andalusian brasserie on the rooftop with stunning panoramic views of Buda, and Alelí, an authentic Italian osteria on the street front.

Each Autograph Collection hotel offers a unique experience specific to the hotel, this is “The Mark.” In the case of the Dorothea Hotel, this unique feature is based on the theme of herbs. In the Pavilion, guests will find a lush wall of herbs and herbal plants, which are used in the cocktails and dishes served in the hotel’s restaurants.
