Dining Guide 2023 no longer only honors restaurants and chefs, but also luxury hotels in Hungary – the top 25 five-star hotels were tested in the compilation of the top list. The top 10 are not only Budapest hotels, but also hotels in the countryside, reports Világgazdaság.
The Audi-Dining Guide Top 100 Restaurant Guide has a special section on Hungary’s five-star hotels in this year’s edition. The top 10 list includes those complexes that represent the highest quality in the country.
Matild Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Budapest, came out on top. The 111-room, 19-suite hotel is located in the neo-Baroque palace building at the Pest end of Elisabeth Bridge, commissioned by Princess Clotilde of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, wife of Archduke Joseph Karl of Austria between 1899 and 1902. The building is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The hotel is home to three restaurants, including the Budapest restaurant of the world-famous Spago by Wolfgang Puck restaurant chain, led by executive chef István Szántó, which was included in the Dining Guide Restaurant Guide Top 10 for the first time this year.
The second and third places in the top list were also taken by hotels in Budapest. Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace Budapest, located in an emblematic Art Nouveau building, came in second. The hotel’s catering unit is the Kollázs Brasserie & Bar and the Múzsa Bar, which was awarded first place in the European Bar category at the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards.
Third place went to the Ritz Carlton Budapest, which features a contemporary Italian-style restaurant, Ottimo. The hotel is located at the center of the Hungarian capital at Deák Ferenc Square.

Four establishments in the guide represent five-star hospitality in the countryside. One is the LUA Resort in Balatonfüred, located directly on the waterfront of Lake Balaton, another one is the Avalon Resort & Spa in Miskolctapolca in the north of the country, and there is also the Botaniq Castle of Tura just east of Budapest.

Another hotel on Lake Balaton, the recently built Mövenpick BalaLand Resort Lake Balaton, has also made the top 10 list, getting the best place among the countryside luxury hotels. The family hotel was sixth on the list.
