The Day of Hungarian Science is celebrated in Hungary on November 3 every year.

The Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) has been commemorating the Day of Hungarian Science since 1997, but it has been celebrated officially in Hungary on November 3 every year since 2003.

On November 3, 1825, Count István Széchenyi donated one year’s income from his estates to the Hungarian Scientific Society, thus enabling the foundation of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

The MTA did not have headquarters for a long time, and a fundraising campaign was launched in 1858, and a design competition launched in 1860, the Hungarian public media writes. The Academy’s building committee was not satisfied with the work submitted, and in 1861, the German architect Friedrich August Stüler was commissioned to design the building. The neo-renaissance style headquarters was inaugurated on December 11, 1865.

The Day of Hungarian Science is the largest and most prestigious forum for the promotion of scientific thinking and new research results, both nationally and internationally.

This year, between November 3-30, organizers will again be offering a series of educational presentations under the motto, Science: the way to know the world. The public events of the event series can be followed in person and online via live streaming on the MTA’s YouTube channel.
