The prestigious Heritage Hotels of Europe Awards gala took place on November 16, writes Turizmus.com. This year, the Hungarian Prónay Castle in northern Hungary received the Heritage & Gastronomy award at the event, celebrating the best of Europe’s historic hotels.
The philosophy of the Prónay Castle is based on teamwork not only in the world of flavors, but also in its daily operations. Thus, this year’s honor is not for one person, but for the whole team, who believe that local ingredients, Hungarian gastronomy, and dedication to guests are equally important.
Today, there are six suites and 25 modern hotel rooms at the castle, offering classic elegance and sophistication. The complete renovation included the acquisition and installation of antique furniture and sumptuous fabrics in the suites, and the walls are decorated with works by 19th and 20th century Hungarian painters. The modern hotel rooms are characterized by minimalist style, and soothing colors.
“We are proud that this award has once again put Hungary’s gastronomic and cultural heritage in the spotlight,” emphasized Eszter Gulyás, president of the Association of Hungarian Castle Hotels. She added:
The award highlights not only the Hungarian gastronomic heritage, but also the commitment of the teams of the castles to harmonize traditions and innovations on a daily basis.”
The aim of the Heritage & Gastronomy Award is to recognize venues and teams that demonstrate the timelessness of historic values through their food.
This year, over 100 castle hotels from 11 countries were eligible to enter the competition.
Heritage Hotels of Europe was founded in 2017, in cooperation with Schlosshotels & Herrenhäuser, Historic Hotels of Slovakia and the Association of Hungarian Castle Hotels. The organization aims to support the international network of historic hotels in Europe and the growth of cultural tourism.
Awards were presented in seven categories, covering built heritage, gastronomy, and guest experience. Once again, Hungarian castle hotels proved their place at the forefront of European cultural tourism. Last year, the Gróf Degenfeld Castle Hotel Superior in Tarcal (northern Hungary) came third in this category, while the Andrássy Kúria & Spa came in second.
