Beyoncé Breaks Grammy Record Held by a Hungarian

The 65th Grammy Awards took place on Sunday night, where world-famous singer Beyoncé broke a record after winning her 32nd Grammy Award. We are talking not just about any record, but a Hungarian one, as Hungarian-born Georg Solti had the most awards until now.

“I’m trying not to be too emotional,” said Beyoncé when she accepted her award. This year, she won the Grammy for best dance/electronic album, but she did not manage to take the album of the year award for the umpteenth time, despite being nominated four times in that category.

Hungarian-born conductor and pianist Georg Solti previously held the record with 31 Grammy awards, but in recent months it was expected that Beyoncé, who was nominated in several categories, would break the Hungarian record. Solti studied at the Academy of Music in Hungary, where his class teacher was famous Hungarian composer Béla Bartók, and he studied composition and piano with Ernst von Dohnányi, another prominent Hungarian composer and conductor. Solti spent ten years at London’s Covent Garden, having worked with Luciano Pavarotti in New York, and led the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for decades. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1972.

As Hungary Today reported earlier, Beyoncé, who previously had 28 Grammy awards, had to win in four categories in order to break the record, which she managed to do. She won the award for best dance/electronic album, best R&B song, best dance/electronic recording, and best traditional R&B performance.
