A direct flight from Brașov International Airport to Budapest will start in the autumn, the operators of the Transylvanian airport have announced. The managers of the Brașov -Vidombac International Airport listed on the facility’s community page the new destinations expected in the future, among which the Hungarian capital was mentioned, reports Világgazdaság.

“Budapest is another destination where there is certainty of launching flights from the autumn,” they wrote. The announcement did not specify which airline would operate the Budapest route, and this information is not yet available on the websites of any of the companies operating flights from Brașov. Levente Magyar, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, announced the decision to launch a direct Budapest-Brașov flight at a hotel opening in Târgu Mures (Marosvásárhely) on July 18.

This will allow daily flights from Budapest to an airport close to Szeklerland, in Transylvania (former part of Hungary, now Romania),

he emphasized.

From Wednesday, the low-cost airline Wizz Air will also operate flights from Brașov. The Hungarian-owned company will fly to London from the Transylvanian city.

The British capital is Romania’s most sought-after foreign destination because of the large number of Romanian immigrants working there. Wizz Air flights take off from Brașov airport three times a week – on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. From September, there will also be flights to Dortmund, Germany, operating on Saturdays and Tuesdays.

In a statement, the airport’s management described

the arrival of Wizz Air in Brașov as historic, and expressed the hope that the company will launch more flights from Brașov in the future, as they are looking for long-term cooperation.

They also announced that Dan Air has promised new destinations: the Romanian airline will launch flights to Paris, Oslo, and Dubai from Brașov airport.

Airport Director Alexandru Anghel stressed that they want more airlines to settle in Brașov, with more destinations and competitive prices. This is also the wish of neighboring counties, he added.

In July, the first full month of the airport’s operation, 10,044 passengers used the terminals. The Brașov-Vidombac International Airport is the first greenfield investment of its kind in Romania,

created and operated by the Brașov County Local Government. It was opened on June 15. It also serves the Szeklerland region, and its creation was fully supported by the leaders of nearby Covasna County (eastern Transylvania, Romania).
