The mayor of a village, ten kilometers from the Ukrainian border, replaced the usual welcome signs with a slogan taken from Hungarian governing party Fidesz, reports Index.

“Welcome to Jánd!” has been replaced by “No migration, no gender, no war!” on the edge of the eastern Hungarian village. Independent mayor István Asztalos justified the change by saying that at least 80 percent of the residents of the settlement agree with the new sign, and that he had consulted the municipality’s representative body.

Mr. Asztalos said that Fidesz has a high level of support in the village. He jokingly said that “even the opposition here is a Fidesz voter.”

Two local residents interviewed by Index said that there is a strong anti-war sentiment in the village, with the Ukrainian border being so close.
