Sziget Festival to Undergo a Makeover, Introducing New Thematic Venues

Hungary Today 2024.07.17.

The 30th Sziget Festival is introducing an exciting new feature. This year, the program will be divided into ‘thematic zones,’ where programs of similar themes will take place in dedicated venues. These will include the ArtFusion Field, hosting theatre, dance and circus performances, and the PlayGround, a home to playful programs, Index reports.

Another venue will be the FutureGrounds zone, hosting thematic discussions throughout the six days of the festival, while trying to convey various social messages. It will include Think for Tomorrow, where Sziget citizens are welcome to explore social issues from a youth perspective, as well as the popular Civil Island, and XS Land, that focuses on the challenges of people living with disabilities.

Organized by the Milestone Institute, the Think for Tomorrow series of events will feature national and international speakers discussing controversial issues.

Here, visitors are invited to share ideas, exchange views and create with workshops, discussions and special screenings. Topics will include burn-out, intimacy, changing online content consumption and climate change.

A wide range of organizations will be presenting their work at the 2024 Civil Island. One of them is the Életrevaló Egyesület whose main goal is to help children, young people and families in mental, social or any other kind of crisis. The Fenntartható Demokráciáért Egyesület is also represented, and its “journalism simulation” program offers interactive games to learn how to obtain credible information. Greenpeace will also be present, showing through VR glasses and posters how extreme weather could be if we do not act.

This year, you can also visit XS Land, that will offer special activities for festival visitors. The interactive theme park will feature games developed and run by a number of disability advocacy organizations to help visitors understand the challenges people with disabilities face in their daily lives.

Through personal experiences and playful activities, the organizers aim to change attitudes towards people with disabilities in society.

In addition to the theme park, the Easy XS Camping also has a toilet and bathing facility for people with disabilities.

This year’s Sziget Festival will be held from August 7 to 12. Among the many performances and interactive activities (in terms of music), the event will feature Halsey, Martin Garrix, Fred again.., Skrillex, Kylie Minogue, Liam Gallagher and many more:
