Siófok (on the southern shore of Lake Balaton) will welcome visitors again in 2024, with a new look and atmosphere, an online quiz game, a new website, and thousands of colorful activities, writes Turizmus.com.
Siófok, closing last year with a record number of overnight stays – nearly 1.5 million – was the number one domestic destination in 2023. However, the town on the shores of Lake Balaton has a few surprises in store for visitors this year.
The Easter Festival (Húsvéti Nyuladalom) will be held again in the spring, with the traditional “sprinkling” (locsolkodás), children’s activities, a gastronomy fair, and performances by renowned bands in the heart of the town.
For almost a month, the Imre Kálmán Cultural Center will be presenting a colorful program of cultural events as part of the Spring Festival, running until the end of April.
Siófok’s renewed symbolic attraction, the Water Tower, will be open all year round, with a two-story exhibition space featuring the works of sculptor Imre Varga and a local history exhibition, alongside the unrivaled panorama.
In 2023, the GasztroFok culinary collaboration debuted in Siófok, aiming at presenting and tasting the rich wine and gastronomic palette of the region, involving local producers and service providers.
Under the brand’s auspices, service providers in the Siófok area will welcome gastronomic adventures on three occasions in 2024: April 12-14, September 13-15, and November 8-10.
The initiative will strengthen the year-round Balaton experience by bringing together the top quality service providers in the region and making their offerings more accessible, with the aim of putting Siófok on the gastronomic map of the region.
The season-opening Pentecost Rose Festival and the Fish Festival in October have become iconic events in Siófok that are also worth adding to the calendar. The organizers are preparing surprise activities, performances by renowned bands, food, and craft specialties. However, this year there will also be the New Orleans Jazz Festival, Town Day, Winter Magic, and New Year’s Eve Party in Siófok.
Other new events for 2024, include an amateur painters’ meeting linked to World’s Handicrafts Day, which will be held in the renewed Rose Garden, providing a wonderful panorama and inspiration.
Furthermore, under the motto of the “Year of Movement,” the town will host several national and international cycling, running, and other sporting events throughout the year, and a city sports day is planned for September.
In 2024, there will also be a Ferris wheel on the beach, and the famous Plázs will once again bring the cream of the Hungarian music scene. In addition, a Balaton cruise on one of Bahart’s renewed fleet promises an unforgettable experience.
