President Novák Inaugurates a “Jewel” at Lake Balaton

MTI-Hungary Today 2023.03.24.

Hungarian President Katalin Novák arrived in Somogy county in western Hungary for a two-day visit on Thursday. This is part of her countrywide tour, which will include visits to all 19 counties during her presidency.

The President visited Fonyód, on the shores of Lake Balaton. From the top of Fonyód hill you can enjoy a beautiful panorama, and Katalin Novák has just inaugurated the renovated Szaplonczay promenade.

At the event, she said that Lake Balaton is a shared meeting point for Hungarians, and the promenade draws our attention not only to the natural richness of the lake, but also to human values, the values of the community, because together they make up the richness of Hungary.

The President also visited Kaposvár, the county seat of Somogy county, where she attended a ceremony at the town’s Tree of Life. Speaking to families, Katalin Novák said that as a mother, she knows the responsibility of having children. Having a child is not only about happiness, joy and easy days, but also about difficulties, problems and challenges that have to be faced, she stated.

The President thanked parents for being there for their children on happy days and difficult days, and for not letting difficulties deter them from having another child if necessary. She said that she had been given the joy and miracle of childbirth three times, “a privilege that God has given women that I would not give for anything, for which we should be grateful”.

Katalin Novák stressed that she was grateful for having been able to work for eight years as State Secretary and then Minister to make it easier to have and raise children in Hungary.

As President, I feel it is my duty to do so; even if I am no longer involved in government decisions, I have been, am and will be there for Hungarian families, they can count on me and I count on you”,

she stressed.

On Thursday, more than sixty children born between November 2021 and January 2022 were named on the latest Tree of Life, and a bronze letter containing the names of more than 5,500 children has been replaced.

After the Tree of Life ceremony, Katalin Novák visited Kometa 99 Zrt, one of the largest pork processors in Hungary. The products made in the Kaposvár plant can be found not only in Hungary, but also in more than 40 countries around the world. In a unique way in Europe, the entire processing process – from slaughtering, processing and curing of salami to the packaging of the meat – takes place under one roof in Kaposvár.
