According to the January 2024 data, more than 88,000 green vehicles are now on the roads in Hungary. Four years ago, there were only 17,000, meaning a five-fold increase since the beginning of the decade, the Ministry of Energy said on its social media page on Thursday.
They added that the growth rate for pure electric cars has been even faster over the same period, at six and a half times. By February of this year, their number is expected to exceed 50,000. The ministry also pointed out that almost five hundred clean motorcycles and more than two hundred clean electric buses are already on the roads in Hungary. The number of pure electric trucks passed the three thousand mark in January 2024.
56% of the green vehicles is all-electric, and 60% of the total fleet is in rural areas.
They stressed that transport is responsible for about a fifth of emissions, with road traffic accounting for the majority of this environmental burden, adding that the promotion of electric cars is a key tool for greening the sector. Modern vehicles can be used without polluting the air, are quieter than internal combustion engines, and can save owners operating and maintenance costs, the ministry noted.
