National Assembly to Elect New President of the Constitutional Court

Hungary Today 2024.06.11.

The National Assembly will elect the new president of the Constitutional Court by secret ballot on June 11, writes 24.hu based on a proposal submitted by Speaker László Kövér on Monday.

The candidate is Imre Juhász, who was elected as a constitutional judge for 12 years in the spring of 2013. If elected, his term of office will run until the end of his current one,  until April 3, 2025.

According to the agenda for the last sitting of the spring session, MPs will vote in secret for the President of the Constitutional Court after the interpellations and final votes.

If the election is successful, Juhász will take the oath of office.

The article notes that the Constitutional Court has been without a president for three months, following the election of its former president, Tamás Sulyok, as Head of State. Until a new president is elected, the body has been headed by Deputy President László Salamon.
