The world star has recently returned to the Hungarian capital, but this time not for music, but for filming. Johnny Depp is shooting a film about the painter Modigliani, reports Magyar Nemzet.
Johnny Depp is back in Hungary. The American actor was recently photographed at the Károlyi Garden in Budapest, where the film Modi, directed by the world star, is being shot. Budapest is the setting of 1910s Paris in the film about the Parisian years of legendary avant-garde artist Amedeo Modigliani.
Al Pacino is also reportedly set to appear in the film as art collector Maurice Gagnat.

The film, taking its title from Modigliani’s nickname, is set in 1916, in the midst of the First World War, according to IMDb. Modigliani, an Italian-born man living through a spiritual crisis, considers himself a failure, and one night he becomes desperate enough to smash up a fashionable Paris restaurant. On the run from police, he decides to leave the French capital with the help of his talented but bohemian friends Maurice Utrillo and Chaim Soutine. He asks his art dealer, Léopold Zborowski, for money and is told that he cannot leave because an influential art collector is coming to Paris to buy his works. Modigliani’s mistress Beatrice Hastings, who believes in his genius, convinces him to meet the collector in person.
The filming of Modi is already underway in Budapest, where Johnny Depp has visited for the third time this year.

At the beginning of the summer, he was shooting an image film for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival at the Gellért Hotel, and in July he was due to perform with his rock band of world stars, Hollywood Vampires, at the Papp László Budapest Sport Arena. However, the latter concert was cancelled at the last minute after Depp fell ill at the hotel and was unable to take the stage. It has since emerged that, contrary to initial reports, the Hollywood Vampires will not be making up their cancelled Budapest concert.
However, it seems that in the next few days, anyone, anywhere, anytime can meet Johnny Depp on the streets of Budapest.

Hungary is becoming increasingly popular with foreign filmmakers, with many famous international movies having been shot in and around the capital. Most recently, the newest movie featuring Nicolas Cage, the sequel of Lord of War, was announced to be filmed in Hungary. Furthermore, Hungary Today reported yesterday that actor Patrick Duffy who portrayed the famous Bobby Ewing in the Dallas series, is in the country to star in a Hungarian comedy.
