Amateur photographer and bus driver, Attila Tompa, has won the title of Photographer of the Year from among more than a million nominees in an international photo competition organized by a Chinese tech company.
Attila Tompa has won the Chinese tech company, Huawei’s mobile photography contest with a photo of his mother-in-law and his daughter, RTL Klub reports. The motto of this year’s competition was “better together.” Tompa, who works as a bus driver, said he thought he won because of Covid. In the past, the virus meant that the elderly and children didn’t get to meet, and his picture captures the reading of a fairy tale together.
His mother-in-law had just received a tablet, and the picture was taken spontaneously when the grandmother started reading her granddaughter a story. Tompa said that the lights were the main factor that caught his eye, and that’s why he took out his mobile phone.
The international mobile photography competition attracted more than one million entries from around the world in several categories. The jury selected three winners, with the Hungarian man being joined by a Czech and a Chinese photographer.
Tompa already won a prize for a picture in last year’s national selection. The competition, which he has now won, was also won by another Hungarian applicant in 2018.
