The prestigious cooking competition’s world final in Lyon lasted for two days, where Hungary was represented by Bence Dalnoki and Patrik Nyikos, under the mentorship of Tamás Széll. The Hungarian duo achieved the best Hungarian result ever in the competition, winning the third place.
The two Hungarian chefs won the silver medal in last year’s Bocuse d’Or qualifying round, so they were in a good position for the final. They were mentored by Tamás Széll, who owns a Michelin-starred restaurant in Budapest, and who himself has competed in the prestigious competition.
At the Bocuse d’Or world finals in Lyon, the fish dish had to be made with monkfish, and the main course had to be a three-course children’s menu dominated by pumpkin and eggs. The jury particularly appreciated the creativity and playfulness that Bence Dalnoki and Patrik Nyikos put into the children’s menu.
The prestigious international competition has been running since 1987, with Hungary taking part since 2008. In 2016-17, Széll won the European final in Budapest and came fourth in the world final in Lyon. This year’s international final was won by Denmark, with Norway taking second place.
