Half the Budget now Allocated under the Popular E-car Support Program

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.08.01.

Over 3,400 companies have applied for support to purchase green vehicles, and the applications received so far cover more than half of the total HUF 30 billion (EUR 76 million) budget, the Ministry of Energy announced on its official Facebook page.

The largest share of applications was for passenger cars, accounting for three quarters of the total. More than 2,500 applications have also received funding decisions worth HUF 11 billion (EUR 28 million) and payments are ongoing.

The ministry reminded:

since the beginning of February, businesses can apply for non-reimbursable subsidies for the purchase of an electric car, truck or minibus under the REPowerEU framework.

The HUF 30 billion scheme can cover up to HUF 4 million of the cost of buying a vehicle, depending on the battery capacity.

The program has contributed to the third highest growth rate of the domestic green fleet in Europe in the first half of 2024. European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA), 123.8 percent more clean passenger cars were registered in Hungary in June 2024 compared to a year earlier. This is the third highest increase after Croatia’s 161.4 percent and the Czech Republic’s 140.8 percent, and much better than the EU average of a 1 percent decrease.

Based on data from the Ministry of the Interior, more clean and quiet cars have been registered in Hungary every month since February than ever before,

the Facebook post writes.

The ministry reiterated that the future belongs to green energy. “The greening of one of the most polluting road transport modes is an important objective not only in terms of climate protection, cleaner air and livability of settlements. The related industrial development will help to relaunch economic growth and strengthen European competitiveness,” the ministry wrote.
