The slow pace of disbursement of EU recovery funds has been criticized by MEPs of Hungary’s governing Fidesz party.
Representatives of the European Commission were asked about the state of play of the implementation of the recovery fund at a joint meeting of the European Parliament’s Budgets, Economic and Monetary Affairs Committees on Tuesday.
Commenting on the Hungarian recovery plan, Fidesz MEP Andor Deli said that Hungary is working hard to reach new milestones and will meet all the conditions of the previous agreement by March.
Hungary is delivering on its commitments, it is now up to Brussels to stick to the agreement,”
said Fidesz MEP Enikő Győri.
Andor Deli asked whether there is a guarantee that the European Commission will not impose new conditions on Hungary in March. He pointed out that the withholding of recovery funds has created an uneven playing field for Hungarian businesses and other beneficiaries, and urged the Commission to give a clear timetable for the disbursement of the funds.
Regarding the so-called REPowerEU funds available for investments in energy independence from Russian energy sources, Deli asked the European Commission to give assurances that it will fast-track the Hungarian plan and will not impose new political conditions.
