Dominik Szoboszlai Among 100 Most Valuable Football Players in World

Hungary Today 2022.01.06.

Hungarian football prodigy Dominik Szoboszlai’s estimated price has risen to €66 million, making him the 57th most valuable player, according to the CIES Football Observatory. This makes Szoboszlai more valuable than, for example, Ansu Fati or Harry Kane — or even Cristiano Ronaldo and Leonard Messi, who did not even make it on the list.

The most valuable player on the list is Real Madrid’s Brazilian rising star Vinícius Júnior, with €166 million. Per position, the top transfer values were calculated for Gianluigi Donnarumma among goalkeepers, Rúben Dias for center backs, Alphonso Davies among fullbacks, Jude Bellingham for defensive midfielders, Florian Wirtz for attacking ones, as well as for Vinícius Júnior among forwards. Kevin de Bruyne has the greatest valuation among players aged 30 or over, while Kylian Mbappé tops the list for players running out of contract next June, CIES reports.

The list also has a Hungarian name on it. According to CIES, young talent Dominik Szoboszlai is more valuable than Théo Hernández, Aymeric Laporte, Alessandro Bastoni, Ansu Fati, or Harry Kane. Players who are slightly ahead of him on the list include Raheem Sterling, Matthijs de Ligt, John Stones, or Mohamed Salah. The reason why football’s biggest stars, Messi and Ronaldo, are not on the list is probably because they are both in their mid-30s, meaning their professional career will most likely end sooner than that of the players on the list. In comparison, all the top 3 players are 21 years olds, and so is Szoboszlai, with only 2 players in the Top 10 who are older than 21.
