Do You Know Pope Francis’ Favorite Hungarian Joke?

Pope Francis started with a joke after he landed in Budapest on Sunday for the 2021 International Eucharistic Congress. He shared his favorite Hungarian joke with the welcoming delegation.

Eduard Habsburg, Hungary’s ambassador to the Holy See and Sovereign Military Order of Malta, shared the funny moment on his Twitter page.

Why will we speak Hungarian in heaven? Because it takes an eternity to learn it!”,

the pope said at Ferenc Liszt Airport.

The pope was in the Hungarian capital to celebrate the closing mass of the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress. During his visit, he met President János Áder and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, as well as the delegations of the Ecumenical Council of Hungarian Churches and Hungarian Jewish organizations. He greeted the Catholic faithful on his way to Heroes’ Square where he celebrated Statio Orbis, the mass concluding the Congress.
