The development of an independent, strong defense industry is of paramount importance, the Hungarian defense minister said after visiting the Rheinmetall plant in Germany.
According to the Ministry of Defense, Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said in Unterlüß, Lower Saxony, that in order to ensure the security of the Hungarian people, weapons must be acquired.
Hungary has already reached a stage where it not only buys weapons, but the manufacturers of these weapons also settle in Hungary, and together we produce the equipment that will be the future tools of the renewed Hungarian Armed Forces,”
the minister said. The statement stresses that the cooperation with the German company Rheinmetall, which has now reached the status of a strategic partnership, began long before the war situation, which led more and more countries to start building their armed forces.
Thanks to the partnership, the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle is produced in Zalaegerszeg, so the Hungarian armed forces are strengthened not only by the equipment manufactured in Germany, but also by the equipment that comes off the production line in the country.
The ministry also described the ammunition factory in Várpalota, which is being built in a joint project with Rheinmetall, as equally important, stressing that ammunition production is now a Europe-wide issue and problem.
Szalay-Bobrovniczky further reported that
during the visit to the Unterlüß plant, the current status of cooperation for the further development of the Hungarian armed forces as well as future directions and possibilities were discussed with the Rheinmetall management.
Not only the procurement of equipment but also production possibilities in Hungary were discussed. In addition to strengthening the armed forces, the development of an independent, strong defense industry is also of great importance, which in addition to ensuring the supply chain of the Hungarian armed forces, can also strengthen the Hungarian economy, according to the ministry.
