Darts’ world stars will come to Hungary for the very first time as the first round of the PDC European Tour is set to be held in Budapest. The Hungarian Trophy kick-starts on September 3 in the capital’s László Papp Sports Arena.
The historic tournament, the very first Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) event in Hungary, was postponed in 2020 due to the pandemic. As a matter of fact, it will bring virtually the entire elite of the sport to Hungary, such as the top 16 of the PDC Pro Tour ranking, including names like Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright, José de Sousa Darly Gurney, Joe Culler, Michael Smith, and James Wade.
The three-day long tournament will feature some 48 players in total and £140,000 (EUR 163,000) in prize money, with £25,000 (EUR 29,000) going to the winner. Thanks to its hosting rights, Hungary can field four of its darts players too.
The bout commences on Friday with a double session of first round action before the 16 seeded players enter Saturday’s second round. Quarter finals, semi finals and the final will be held on Sunday evening.
Day tickets range from HUF 2,600- 21,600 (EUR 7.5-62) for Friday, HUF 9,800-27,200 (EUR 28-78) for Saturday and Sunday, but session tickets (for the afternoon or evening schedule) are also on sale, with a Friday afternoon (session 1) ticket to the cheapest sector only costing some HUF 1,000 (EUR 2.9).
