Record Number of Participants at the Budapest Open Darts Tournament

A record number of entries have been received for the WDF Budapest Open international scoring darts tournament from Saturday to Sunday, with more than 350 men, women, youth, and para competitors from 26 countries taking to the board at the Gerevich Aladár National Sports Hall.

Gábor Balázs, President of the Hungarian Darts Federation, remarked that the first Budapest Open was to be held in 2020, but the COVID pandemic prevented its debut.

Therefore, this year, the second largest domestic tournament after the Hungarian Open, providing points for the World Darts Federation (WDF) World Championship qualification, will be held for the fourth time.

“We are bringing these tournaments to Hungary in order to attract as many of our competitors as possible, with almost half of the field being domestic darts players who will be able to gain qualifying points for the WDF World Championships in December,” Balázs emphasized.

As a “warm-up” for the Budapest Open, a pairs competition will be held on Friday (April 12) evening, while on Saturday – as darts is a very popular recreational sport in Hungary –

amateurs will also have the opportunity to show their skills.

The event will be attended by Nick Rolls, Secretary General of the WDF, and Robert Waterman, Managing Director of the WDF’s events company. The Hungarian Federation officials will discuss further cooperation with the sports leaders and the organization of the WDF World Masters in Hungary. The event could come to Budapest as early as October.

Entrance to the WDF Budapest Open is free of charge.

he World Darts Federation confirmed that the World Masters will return in 2024. The World Masters is one of the longest-running and most prestigious of the BDO/WDF tournaments, which began in 1974.
