Coronavirus: Number of Hospitalized Covid Patients Surpasses 5,000

116 patients died of Covid over the past 24 hours, while 8,370 new coronavirus infections were registered in Hungary, koronavirus.gov.hu said on Friday.

The number of active infections has risen to 89,581, while hospitals are treating 5,147 Covid patients, 509 of whom need respiratory assistance.

Since the first outbreak, the number of fatalities has risen to 31,867, while 939,784 infections have been registered. Fully 818,336 people have made a recovery.

So far 5,992,142 people have received a first jab, while 5,768,941 have been fully vaccinated. Fully 1,527,000 Hungarians have received a booster jab.

There are 47,575 people in official quarantine, while 7,752,519 tests have been officially carried out.

The government announced last week that employers were being given the right to require vaccination against Covid-19 as a precondition of employment in order to ensure workers’ safety. The state, as an employer, will also apply the measure, and mayors will have the right to introduce the requirement at local councils. Mask-wearing has also been made mandatory on public transport again from Nov. 1, and a visitor ban is also being introduced at hospitals.
