According to the newspaper Demokrata, Hungarian citizens who do not have a residence address in Hungary or any other Member State of the European Union can also vote in the elections for Hungarian members of the European Parliament (EP) after registration.
In addition to the 7.68 million citizens eligible for voting who reside in Hungary, voters from other EU states who are residents in Hungary also have the right to vote (if they wish to vote for a Hungarian list). Hungarian citizens of voting age who do not have an address in Hungary or another EU Member State may also vote.
Voters who do not have a residence in another EU state can vote by mail after registering to vote. Those who have already registered do not need to do so again, as their registration is valid for this election too. Those who have not yet registered can do so until May 15.
The National Election Office (NVI) will send the postal voting package – including the ballot paper – to voters from abroad who, according to the central register, have no address in Hungary or another EU country, after the ballot paper image has become valid.
Voters can request the ballot pack by post, but can also collect it at their designated diplomatic mission or consular post from May 25.
If the voter has given a ballot paper delivery address in a country where dual citizenship is prohibited, the NVI will deliver the packet through the diplomatic mission.
