All Railjet trains to Hungary will continue to operate on their full routes. Passengers will not have to change trains in Vienna, Austria, while in the other direction it is advised to take an earlier train than planned, the Hungarian railway company (MÁV) stressed in a press release.
The Austrian railway company (ÖBB) announced that from October 4 – 26, some Railjet Xpress trains from Budapest and passing Vienna will run on a shorter route to Vienna only, in line with the current phase of the renovation of the main line in Győr (northern Hungary). Railjets departing from Budapest Keleti railway station via Vienna to Munich every two hours between 7:40 and 3:40 will only run to Vienna, they announced, adding that passengers can continue their journey to Munich by changing trains in Vienna. To ensure that passengers can continue their journey from Vienna by Railjet, they are advised to take the international train to Vienna one hour earlier than scheduled.
It is also important to note that international tickets to Austria can be used on other trains within the validity period if passengers take the earlier train to connect abroad.
If a passenger has a seat on a Railjet train with a shorter route and wishes to travel to the Austrian capital on the same day’s train, MÁV will issue a new seat ticket free of charge until Vienna. If the passenger does not have a seat on the original train but wishes to book a seat on the preceding train, the seat reservation fee must be paid. If someone cancels their journey because of a change of train, despite being offered an earlier option, they will be refunded the price of the international ticket already purchased for the part of the journey not yet made, without any handling costs.
