Concerts, literary and dance performances, films, and family programs await the audience at the three-day VárkertFeszt (Castle Garden Fest) between May 30 and June 1 in Budapest, in the Castle Garden Bazaar, Budapest.
Krisztina Sikota, Deputy Director General for Tourism, Culture and Communication of the Castle Museum, remarked at the press conference on Wednesday that
the three-day cultural festival was first organized last year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the rebirth of the Castle Garden Bazaar.
The focus of this year’s programs is again on families, children, and young people. For children, there will be all-day craft activities, playhouses, interactive games. She stressed that this year again the audience will be welcomed with productions in all genres: from jazz to folk music, literary programs, and theater performances.
Sikota noted that
outdoor stages will be set up in the Neo-Renaissance Garden, the Öntőház Courtyard, and the Szárazárok (“Dry Ditch”), while the large concerts will be held in the event hall of the Castle Garden Bazaar.
On the evening of May 30, “Jenő Fekete and the Banda” will give a concert. As Jenő Fekete said, the concert will include original songs, real blues classics and covers, and the invited guest will be singer Tamás Takáts.
On May 31, a Hungarian-Greek music and literary evening entitled Aposztróf Hellász Nyomában (Apostrophe on the Trail of Hellas) will be held in the Öntőház Courtyard.
The Orchestra of the Budapest Philharmonic Society with Andrea Malek will take the stage under the title “Free in Music” on June 1, with songs by Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Barbra Streisand. On the same day, Parno Graszt, an ensemble that plays authentic gypsy music, will perform with the Bohemian Betyars. The concert will feature punk music with Hungarian folk and world music elements.
Describing the summer programs of the Várkert Bazár, Sikota said that the audience will be able to dance with István Pál Szalonna and his band on the Panorama Terrace several times during the free open-air dance-hall series, but live gypsy music and horsemen will also be waiting for visitors in the Palace District.
In summer evenings, the VárKERT Cinema will screen the most popular Hungarian films, and the popular “Dance in the Garden” series of events will also continue.
Free concerts will be organized in the Buda Castle District and Várkert Bazaar, and an open-air exhibition Summer in the City will be opened in cooperation with the Hungarian National Gallery. During the summer, visitors can take part in thematic walks in the Castle Garden Bazaar and the Palace Gardens as well.
