The Waberer’s Group has tested BYD’s 19-ton electric truck for 15 days, the first in the European Union. The test was carried out in Budapest by Waberer’s-Szemerey Logistics (WSZL), a subsidiary of the group, and was mainly aimed at assessing the vehicle’s performance, efficiency, and adaptability to urban environments, writes Világgazdaság.
During the test, the truck covered 150 kilometers per day and made 10-12 unloadings, they reported, adding that BYD’s truck has a maximum range of 250 kilometers with a 9.7-ton load.
Szilárd Cser, Managing Director of WSZL, stressed that
in addition to the environemental benefits, the payload capacity of BYD’s vehicle was the most notable feature. These vehicles are also quiet, which can be useful for urban transport.
According to the company’s statement, the trial fits well with the Waberer’s Group’s efforts to reduce its ecological footprint and continue to be a pioneer in sustainable transport in the market. To this end, 50 lightweight semi-trailers have also been purchased, and the average age of the Hungarian fleet has been reduced to less than 2.5 years.
Just as other car manufacturers,
BYD is looking for alternative sources of revenue in the fierce competition for electric vehicles in China, with a move towards electric commercial vehicles.
Furthermore, it was announced in June that BYD is setting up a battery assembly plant in Fót (near Budapest), creating 100 new jobs in the first round. This investment will increase Hungary’s role in the European electric car transition, strengthen Hungary’s leading role in this economic process, contribute to job security in Hungary, and help Hungary attract new capacity in its most important industry of the future.
BYD’s truck was not the only electrically-powered vehicle tested on the roads of Hungary. Earlier this year, the Hyundai XCIENT hydrogen-powered truck delivered shipments to customers without carbon dioxide emissions.
