Austrian Chief of Staff Visits Armored Brigade and Simulation Center in Tata

Hungary Today 2024.03.08.

Hungary and Austria are privileged partners, and since the end of the communist regime there has been continuous cooperation and exchange of experience, stressed General Gábor Böröndi, Chief of the Defense Staff, at the Austrian-Hungarian Chief of Staff meeting in Tata (northwestern Hungary) on March 7.

In connection with the event, General Gábor Böröndi pointed out that the Chief of Staff meetings have a dual purpose, reports honvedelem.hu. The military part provides an opportunity to identify potential cooperation for the coming period and to share experiences on procurement and the operation of new equipment. Equally important is the establishment and maintenance of personal contacts that greatly facilitate practical cooperation, he added.

Today, the steadily deepening relationship between the two countries is mainly reflected in joint tank, artillery, and armored grenade training.

The Chief of the Defense Staff stressed that in order to assess further cooperation and training opportunities between the two countries, General Rudolf Striedinger, Austrian Chief of Defense Staff, had the opportunity to visit the Klapka György 1st Armored Brigade of the Hungarian Defense Forces in Tata.

The meeting started with a presentation by the unit commander, Colonel István Tóth, who introduced the organizational structure, tasks, and equipment of the brigade to the delegation.
