Oscar and three-time Golden Globe-winning American actress Angelina Jolie is moving to Hungary to film a movie about the life of Maria Callas. In recent years, she has been in the press almost exclusively because of her divorce from Brad Pitt, but now the focus is back on her.
As Index reports, the last time Angelina Jolie was in Hungary was in 2010, when she directed her first film, In the Land of Blood and Honey. After 13 years, she is returning to Hungary to make a film about the world-famous opera singer Maria Callas.
As one of the world’s most beautiful opera houses is in Budapest, the building is the perfect location for a film about the singer’s success.
The movie will focus on the singer’s last few years, when she was living in Paris and retired from the spotlight. Based on the information from Hungarian tabloid, Blikk, the Opera House will probably film scenes from the singer’s active years, as
there are 15 days in the next few months when no performances will be held.
The tabloid says that the Hollywood actress will only come to the Hungarian capital with her youngest children, 17-year-old Shiloh, and 15-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. Apparently, she wants to live in a quiet private house again during her months here, protecting her privacy and that of her children.
Hungary is becoming increasingly popular with foreign filmmakers, with many famous international movies having been shot in and around the capital. Most recently, the newest movie featuring Nicolas Cage, the sequel of Lord of War, was announced to be filmed in Hungary. Furthermore, Hungary Today reported recently that actor Patrick Duffy, who portrayed the famous Bobby Ewing in the Dallas series, is in the country to star in a Hungarian comedy. In addition, Johnny Depp is in Budapest as well directing his newest production about the famous painter, Modigliani.
