NATO is making rapid strides towards crossing the red lines drawn earlier, and the North Atlantic alliance now wants to pump another 100 billion dollars into the war in Ukraine, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said in Budapest on Thursday.
Minister Szijjártó stressed that peace in Europe is looking increasingly distant as a result. “In addition to the fact that NATO wants to coordinate arms deliveries to Ukraine and the training of Ukrainian soldiers more closely than ever before, it now wants to pump another 100 billion dollars into the war,” he said.
He noted that the proposal of the NATO Secretary General had been submitted to the member states for a first reading on Tuesday.
Moreover, this 100 billion dollars would have to be raised over five years, meaning that NATO expects the war to drag on for at least five years,”
he pointed out.
“And we know what a risk that is, because every day that goes by with this war brings with it the risk of the war spreading over time and geographically,” he warned.
The Minister confirmed that Hungary’s position remains clear: there is no solution on the battlefield, only death and destruction, and only negotiations can bring a settlement. “There are not and can be no winners in this war, there are only losers,” he stressed.
He concluded that Hungary does not want to participate in NATO’s arms supply and training operation, and the government does not want to contribute to this with taxpayers’ money.
