On the 176th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution and War of Independence of 1848-49, the Hungarian National Museum (MNM) is offering free programs over the course of three days, including craft activities and curatorial guided tours among a number of other activities.
The ceremonial programs will start at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 15, followed by a speech by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at 11 a.m.
It was pointed out that the Hungarian National Museum will offer free programs on Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Children can enjoy craft activities, creative programs, a museum playground, a coloring corner, treasure hunt programs, and film screenings, while adults can enjoy thematic guided tours, building tours, and guided tours of music history.
Visitors can also try out the revolutionary windmill, the giant puzzle, the memory board game, the cooperative card game “What does the Hungarian nation wish for?”, and the MNM Puzzle. There will also be a coloring corner for children and film screenings in Széchényi Hall.

On Saturday, March 16, the museum’s playground will be complemented by the “Build a Museum!” program, where children aged 10 and over can build the Hungarian National Museum in miniature. There will also be a family treasure hunt and craft activities led by folk artisans. On the same day, guided tours will also be offered, including a guided tour entitled “It was only a moment,” which will take visitors into the world of 19th century balls and love affairs, with the help of actors from the Madách Theater.
On Sunday, March 17, visitors will be invited to a curated guided tour of the museum, entitled “The Greats of the Longest Century-” a history of the 19th century, and a guided tour of the Altamira cave paintings.

The announcement also points out that the National Museum will be closed on March 14.
In addition, State Secretary for International Communication Zoltán Kovács wrote on his social media page that this year, the central programs of the national holiday will begin on March 14, when the Kossuth and Széchenyi Prizes will be awarded at the Parliament. On March 15, the flag of Hungary will be raised at 9 a.m. on Kossuth Lajos Square, as is customary.
In the framework of the Open Parliament program, visitors will be able to see the Holy Crown in the Parliament building free of charge from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on March 15, he added. Kovács also noted that on the day of the national holiday, as well as on the 16th and 17th from 5.30 p.m. to 11 p.m., the façade of the Hungarian National Museum will be decorated with light painting.
