Budapest Zoo Increasingly Popular, Visitor Numbers Growing

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.02.26.

Visitor numbers at the Budapest Zoo already returned to pre-pandemic levels in 2022, and last year the zoo welcomed over seven percent more visitors.

With this result, the Hungarian capital’s zoo remains the country’s most visited cultural and public institution.

The number of visitors to the Budapest Zoo is around one million every year.

Due to the provisions related to the COVID pandemic, the zoo naturally received fewer visitors in 2020 and 2021, as it was not allowed to open its doors to the public for months and various restrictions were in place after the reopening. In 2022, when these restrictions were lifted, the total number of visitors reached 1.036 million.

Last year, this number increased further, with a total of 1.113 million people visiting the zoo’s attractions.

This represents an increase of almost 7.5 percent compared to the previous year.

Modern zoos have a number of important objectives, including education, raising awareness, environmental education, conservation, and the preservation of endangered species. Zoos are also important recreational venues, providing a significant place for nature-based leisure activities.
