Multimedia Exhibition of Van Gogh’s Works Opens in Budapest

An exhibition entitled “The Immersive Experience” will be on display from Friday at the BOK Hall in Budapest, where the best-known works of Vincent van Gogh will be shown on a thousand square meters of projectors.

The exhibition will not show original paintings by Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890), but only visual representations of them in a 2,000-square-meter audiovisual exhibition space.

Vincent van Gogh (1853 – 1890) was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who is one of the most famous and influential figures in Western art history. In just over a decade, he produced some 2,100 works, including some 860 oil paintings, most of them in the last two years of his life. These include landscapes, portraits, and self-portraits, and are characterized by bold, symbolic colors and dramatic, impulsive, and highly expressive brushwork that contributed to the foundations of modern art. Only one of his paintings by name is known to have been sold in his lifetime. Van Gogh became famous after his suicide at the age of 37, following years of poverty and mental illness.

In the exhibition, the painter’s sunflower fields, starry skies, and even the door to his bedroom will come to life. It also includes a special VR (virtual reality) room and a studio where anyone can step into van Gogh’s shoes and create their own work, the exhibition’s organizers emphasized.
