Two National Team Players Strengthen SC Freiburg

Hungary Today 2024.01.22.

SC Freiburg’s Hungarian Roland Sallai scored the winning goal in the 89th minute of the match against TSG Hoffenheim in a 3-2 win in the 18th round of the Bundesliga on Saturday. Meanwhile, fellow Hungarian national team player Attila Szalai watched the match from the Hoffenheim bench. On Sunday it was announced that his club would loan him to Freiburg.

Sallai decided the game in the last minutes in favor of Freiburg, who were already in man-disadvantage by then. Although his close-range header was saved by the visitors’ goalkeeper, he put the rebound under the bar. It was the 26-year-old player’s sixth goal of the season and his third in the league. Sallai also made the top 11 in the virtual game on the Bundesliga website, where he scored 17 points thanks to his agile play and winning goal.

On Sunday, Freiburg confirmed the press report that the team will loan Attila Szalai from Hoffenheim. The news was first reported by German Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg on Saturday, and was confirmed by the team with a photo and the caption “Herzlich Willkommen in Freiburg, Attila!” (Welcome to Freiburg, Attila!) on their social media page.

Szalai, a 41-time Hungarian national team player, joined Hoffenheim for EUR 14 million last summer but has failed to earn a regular playing time, playing just 333 minutes in five matches – four Bundesliga and one German Cup.
