Budapest Hosts Prestigious Synchronized Skating Competition This Weekend

MTI-Hungary Today 2024.01.19.

From Saturday to Monday, the world’s best synchronized skaters will compete at the Vasas Ice Center in Kaposztásmegyer (part of Budapest’s 4th district).

According to the Hungarian federation, 67 teams from 13 countries will take to the ice in seven categories of the SEAT Budapest Cup and dazzle the audience with their spectacular performances.

The competition will once again be one of the stops of the International Skating Union (ISU) Challenger Series, where adult competitors can collect valuable ranking points. The event – characterized by spectacle, dynamics, and a fantastic atmosphere – will feature the best of the 2023 Senior and Junior World Championships, including the World Champion Team Les Suprêmes from Canada, World Championship silver medalist Team Helsinki Rockettes, and World Champion third placed Team Unique.

The Hungarian junior national synchronized skating team and Team Passion (the senior team), which finished seventh at last year’s World Championships, will also be there.

Also in the junior age group will be defending world champion Team Fintastic from Finland.

Fact

The ISU Challenger Series is an international figure skating competition. It is a group of senior-level competitions created by the International Skating Union for the 2014-15 season, ranked below the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating. Each event consists of at least three of the four disciplines (men’s singles, women’s singles, pairs skating, and ice dancing).

“We are extremely proud that Budapest is once again hosting this very strong and high quality competition, which is attracting huge interest and features the best teams in the world.

It is no exaggeration to say that we are hosting a “mini World Championship” in the heart of Europe.

This is a huge recognition from the ISU,” said Lajos Kósa, President of the Hungarian National Skating Federation, who indicated that a team can participate in two Challenger events in one season.
