German railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB) announced that a strike will take place in Germany from 2 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10 until 6 p.m. on Friday, January 12. During the strike, long-distance and regional services on the German rail network are expected to experience significant disruption and longer journey times, reports Világgazdaság.
DB is advising passengers to postpone their journeys if possible, writes Hungarian railway company MÁV in a statement. Passengers traveling to Germany are advised to inform themselves via the DB and MÁV information interfaces and customer service.
The strike affects the Kálmán Imre EuroNight direct trains (Budapest-Stuttgart-Budapest), the Railjet xpress direct trains (Budapest-Bechstadt-Budapest), the Metropol EuroNight direct trains (Budapest-Berlin-Budapest), and the Hungária EuroCity trains (Budapest-Hamburg-Budapest).
From Janury 10, the following changes can be expected:
On January 10, 11, and 12, Railjet xpress trains to and from Germany will only run to and from Salzburg, Austria. They will be cancelled on the section to Germany.
On January 10, 11, and 12, the Hungaria EC from Budapest Nyugati station at 7:29 a.m. will run only between Budapest and Prague. Passengers can travel from Prague to Dresden after a transfer on a train provided by Czech Railways.
On January 10, 11, and 12, the Hungaria EC train from Hamburg to Budapest Nyugati station at 8:28 p.m. will only run between Prague and Budapest.
On January 10 and 11, the Metropol EN train from Budapest Nyugati station at 7:30 p.m. will not run direct from Budapest to Berlin.
On the nights of January 10 and 11, the Metropol EN train from Berlin Hbf at 7:21 p.m. will not run direct Berlin-Budapest.
On the nights of January 10 and 11, the Kálmán Imre EN train from Keleti station at 8:40 p.m. will only run between Budapest and Salzburg. On the nights of January 10, 11, and 12, the direct carriages of the Kálmán Imre EN train Stuttgart-Budapest will only run between Salzburg and Budapest.
Tickets and seat reservations purchased by January 8 for travel to, from, or via Germany on these evenings can be returned free of charge or used on the route indicated on the ticket until January 19.
If you buy a new ticket, the railway company can only provide you with offers that are still available. If only a more expensive ticket can be offered, passengers can apply to the customer service for a fair refund of the difference between the two tickets.
