Éva Marton Singing Competition 2024: Door to the International Opera Scene

Hungary Today 2024.01.09.

The Éva Marton International Singing Competition, which takes place every two years, is attracting an increasing number of talented young singers and has drawn a great deal of attention abroad. Éva Marton is co-founder of the Friends of Hungary Foundation (MOBA), publisher of our news portals, Hungary Today and Ungarn Heute.

The singing competition, organized with the support of the MOL New Europe Foundation and the National Culture Fund of Hungary, was initiated in 2014, by the world-famous soprano Éva Marton, one of the greatest singers of our time and professor emeritus of the Liszt Academy in Budapest.

For the fifth edition in 2022, 132 young singers from 38 countries registered, and the event was accepted into the World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFIMC) in 2018.

The WFIMC writes on its website about Marton that she has always set the highest standards for herself, her colleagues, and students, and this also applies to the participants, for whom the competition is intended to be an important step on the path to independent success. The obligatory performance of a Liszt song in the preliminary round contributes to the international promotion of the art of the founder of the Liszt Academy.

As proof of its commitment to education, the Éva Marton International Singing Competition has become an indispensable opportunity and door to the international opera scene, at a legendary venue, the Liszt Academy.

As a rule, more than 100 participants from five continents submit their entries to the competition each time, of which around 70 are selected to take part in the live rounds.

World-renowned jury members such as Anatoli Goussev and Miguel Lerín are looking for artists who seem to be able to realize what Marton has achieved, whose career is based on an incredible amount of hard work and a lot of learning.
