Mátyás Erdélyi, the Oscar-winning cinematographer of Son of Saul, photographed The Iron Claw, starring former High School Musical star Zac Efron. The film will be screened in U.S. cinemas from December 22, reports Magyar Nemzet.
The Iron Claw tells the true story of two wrestlers, the Von Erich brothers.
The film, following the rise and fall of a family of wrestlers, stars Zac Efron as popular 1980s wrestler Kevin Von Erich, and Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) as his brother Kerry.
The sports drama, shot for 24 Studios, was written and directed by Sean Durkin, who also worked with Mátyás Erdély, the Kossuth Prize-winning cinematographer of the Oscar-winning Son of Saul, on the film The Nest.
A trailer has recently been released for the film, which will be on the screen for the first time on December 22.
Mátyás Erdély spoke to Magyar.film.hu earlier about working with directors and his work with László Nemes Jeles, director of the Academy Awards Winner Son of Saul. “We made three short films together before Saul, and even then we had a good relationship, but now I really respect him.”

“During the pre-production, shooting, and post-production of Saul, I felt that what he was doing was amazing: the vision with which he set about this film, the way he got it through the financing system as a first-time filmmaker, or the way he made compromises, only to the extent that it does not endanger the essence of the film. I admired all of these things. I feel like I have really deepened my relationship with László,” emphasized the cinematographer.
