Sebastian Kurz in Hungary: Diplomatic Solution to the War in Ukraine a Must

Hungary Today 2023.08.04.

“The Hungarian economy has developed very well and I think there is still a lot of potential. Austria is also a strong country in terms of automotive supply, and Hungary is already producing a very wide range of products, and in terms of battery production, Hungary is already one of the world leaders”, said the former Austrian Chancellor in an interview for Mandiner.

On the topic of illegal migration, Sebastian Kurz said that the opinion of many in Europe has become “more rational and reasonable” since the 2015 migration crisis. Smugglers must not be allowed to decide who is allowed to enter a country, but a country must be allowed to decide for itself who it wants to take in, he said. However, he added, the European asylum and migration system still does not work, illegal migration must be stopped at the external borders, and the EU is doing too little to achieve this.

According to the former chancellor, the Union has a difficult time ahead. Should the EU fall further behind economically and fail to fight inflation, the future of Europe will look “very bleak.” Maintaining competitiveness is a key issue and must be brought to the fore.

On the war in Ukraine, Kurz stressed that victory against Russia is not possible. The end of bloodshed can only be achieved through a ceasefire and negotiations must be started. If no diplomatic solution is found, the war will drag on endlessly.

The former chancellor was very positive about our industry. “The Hungarian economy has developed very well and I think it still has a lot of potential. Austria is also a strong country in terms of automotive supply, and Hungary already produces a very wide range of products, and in terms of battery production, Hungary is already one of the world leaders.

Hungary is a country that has developed well and still has a lot of potential.”

he told Mandiner.

Hungary is on its way to becoming a major power in battery production, which is considered the industry of the future, and production has been going on in Göd and Komárom for a long time. Last year, Samsung recorded sales of about 4.075 billion euros in Göd. The profit of the Göd plant amounted to 76 million Euros.

The South Korean SK Group owns two factories in Komárom and is nearing completion of a third in Iváncsa, one of which saw its 2022 profit increase more than twenty-fold from the previous year, posting an after-tax profit of $29.5 million
