The Debrecen Wine and Jazz Days is Hungary’s longest-running jazz festival, which has been held every year since 1972, except for 2020, in the second largest city of Hungary, located on the Great Hungarian Plain. This year, wine lovers and jazz enthusiasts are welcome to the Nagyerdei Park between 3-6 August, said Réka Mészáros, managing director of Főnix Rendezvényszervező Kft.

Réka Mészáros said that jazz and wine are a perfect pairing: “Sipping and tasting a myriad of flavors under the shady canopy while listening to soft or smoky jazz is an inimitable experience”.

“The three stages of the festival will feature the best of Hungarian jazz musicians and bands: young, experimental jazz musicians and experienced, well-known jazz masters will come to Debrecen with about forty formations,” Réka Mészáros highlighted.

Among the festival’s headliners will be the duo of Veronika Harcsa and Bálint Gyémánt, the Nagy Emma Quintet, the Hungarian Jazz Quintet, which is 50 years old this year, the Vas/Bukowski/Szmanda trio, the Szakcsi Jr. Renaissance, the Subtones,

she emphasized, adding that the festival will close with a concert by the Debrecen Dixieland Jazz Band, which has been in existence for 38 years, and legendary jazz guitarist István “Gyafi” Gyárfás.

After the concerts, jazz DJs will provide the music for the wine tastings every evening.

Balázs Bágyi, president of the Hungarian Jazz Association, said it was important that jazz should not only be present in the capital. He said that the one in Debrecen is one of the most beautiful jazz festivals in the country, offering a unique experience.
