Instead of a reasonable approach, the EU is still pushing sanctions, according to the Foreign Minister. Péter Szijjártó stated that the government does not accept measures that threaten Hungary’s energy security.

“With the presentation of the European Commission’s tenth package of sanctions, Brussels has once again proved that it is not providing any help in the fight against inflation,” Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on Thursday.

Once again, Brussels is only coming up with sanctions, even though it has already been proven that they do not work,”

he said. “Nine times they have tried, nine times they have failed. I think a reasonable conclusion should be that we not try this again, but unfortunately, Brussels is not taking a reasonable approach,” Szijjártó added.

According to the minister, representatives of some member states made several proposals on Wednesday that would seriously endanger Hungary’s energy security. Some called for the impossibility of transporting oil through the Friendship (Druzhba) oil pipeline and for strict restrictions on nuclear cooperation with Russia.

These measures would once again make the Hungarian people pay the price of war,”

and therefore the government would do everything to prevent them, he stressed.

“Of course, we reject the proposals for restrictions on both oil supplies and nuclear cooperation, and we will do our utmost to ensure that they are not part of the next sanctions package,” Szijjártó added.
