The Libabőr Festival (‘Goosebump Festival’), which made its successful debut in 2023, will be held again this year, from November 1-17, with the event taking place country-wide, Turizmus.com reports.
The festival will focus on new wine and the continuation of Martin’s Day traditions, with dozens of wineries, restaurants, and several other hospitality venues joining the event with special offers.
The Libabőr Festival will offer a wide range of exciting activities for wine lovers, gastronomy enthusiasts, and families.
The wineries will offer new wine tastings, exclusive cellar visits and discounts, while guests will be able to discover the secrets of wine making and taste this year’s latest batches. In addition, many restaurants are preparing goose menus to add traditional flavors of Martinmas dishes to the festive menu.
The festival’s special atmosphere will be enhanced by live music concerts in several venues, and for families and children, there will be crafts, games, and bonfires.
According to tradition, large feasts are held on this day, as St. Martin’s Day is the last feast before the 40-day fast preceding Christmas, and dishes are typically made of goose. There is also an old folk saying linked to the feasts: “If you do not eat goose on Martin’s Day, you will starve all year round.” After the goose dinner on St. Martin’s Day, it is customary to toast with a “Martin’s glass,” i.e. a glass of new wine. According to tradition, new wine on Martin’s Day is said to give you strength and health.
