Lake Balaton Ferry Season Starts with Big Discounts

Hungary Today 2024.06.03.

Following the excellent spring traffic, the pre-season started on June 1, with scheduled services departing from all ports on weekends, and priority ports offering services on weekdays as well, the Balaton Shipping Company (BAHART) announced.

The company pointed out that thanks to the fleet expansion, which was implemented with more than HUF 6 billion (EUR 15 million) of government support, ships will be able to sail more frequently between the coasts in the pre-season, and discounts will be extended from the first month of summer, reports Világgazdaság. Scheduled services will depart daily from the ports of Badacsony, Balatonfüred, Tihany, Tihanyrév (all on the northern shore), Fonyód, Siófok, and Balatonföldvár (all on the southern shore).

In addition, scheduled services will depart from the other ten ports on the shores of Lake Balaton on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in the pre-season, from June 1.

The company plans to operate nine daily routes in both directions between Fonyód and Badacsony, and seven routes in each direction between Siófok and the northern coast from Monday to Thursday, and nine services in each direction on Fridays and weekends. The ships between the two coasts, including the Balatonboglár-Révfülöp (southern shore-northern shore) service on Fridays and weekends, operate with a large bicycle capacity.

The number of cyclists on Lake Balaton has more than doubled compared to the previous year, hence the company is also helping cyclists by installing extra bike storage facilities at the harbors.

During the pre-season, running until July 5, eight ports are offering one-hour cruises and the popular “Pleasure boat trip in the sunset” program. In Balatonfüred and Siófok, several nostalgia boats will be departing in addition to the more regular schedule, while passengers can take a cruise from Balatonboglár or Révfülöp on a scheduled boat. The trip is 75 minutes long, with a 25 percent discount if those interested buy a return ticket without getting off.

From the summer, BAHART will also be introducing new discounts:

the family ticket type, which has proved so popular on scheduled services, will be extended to include cruises and children’s boat programs, with a fixed discounted price regardless of the number of children. In addition to the ferries, disabled persons will now also be able to travel free of charge on passenger boats.

Until June 20, ferry services will depart from Szántódrév (southern shore) from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and from Tihanyrév from 7:15 a.m. to 9:15 p.m. every half hour or continuously if traffic requires.
