Spectacular Video of the New Ferries and Catamarans on Lake Balaton

Hungary Today 2024.04.29.

The Hungarian government has published a spectacular video on the video-sharing platform Youtube, Magyar Nemzet has spotted. “The biggest development of the last 40 years has taken place on Lake Balaton: four new ships, including two ferries and two catamarans, have entered service,” Márton Nagy, Minister for National Economy, said in the video.

“The development of tourism is important for the government, and the development of tourism on Lake Balaton is a priority in this respect,” the minister stressed. He noted: “Never before have ships of this size and in such numbers arrived on Lake Balaton, and what is more, they are completely environmentally friendly thanks to their electric propulsion, and their cruising speed is significantly higher than that of the old boats. In addition, their capacity is 351 passengers.”

As Hungary Today recently reported, at this year’s opening ceremony of the shipping season in Fonyód-Badacsony (southern to northern shore), visitors could also meet the new catamaran of the Balaton Shipping Company (Bahart).

From spring, the new catamaran named “Tomaj” will operate on the busiest Fonyód-Badacsony route.

Márton Nagy said at the handover ceremony in Siófok: “We see that families are heading to Lake Balaton again and we expect that tourist consumption this year could exceed the record year of 2019. The traffic in the first months is a good sign, as the number of guest nights increased significantly from January to the end of March: by 18 percent in the capital and 14 percent in the countryside.” The government expects an 18-19 percent increase in the number of nights spent in Hungary this year. Márton Nagy noted that 220,000 tourists made reservations for 510,000 nights across the country for the Easter long weekend.
